Since the election of the Andrews Government in December 2014 drug offences have skyrocketed.

Member for Ripon, Louise Staley MP said the Andrews Government has been ineffective in taking on the rising tide of drugs and Ice.

“Daniel Andrews’ Ice Action plan is failing Ripon residents; $184 Million has been poured into this program which hasn’t made a single difference to local families dealing with the devastating impact of ice.” Ms Staley said.

“Rising drug offences are often accompanied by increases in violent crimes and burglaries.”

“Despite these problems we still have members of the Andrews Government arguing for drug injecting rooms in our communities.”

The Liberals under Matthew Guy have called for a need for tougher sentencing for drug traffickers, a revamped rehabilitation process and more awareness campaigns for young people.

Ms Staley said less money should be spent on marketing and more on helping addicts.

Currently, ice addicts looking to seek treatment are being made to sit on lengthy waiting lists for up to a year before getting access to rehab because Daniel Andrews is spending funds from the Ice Action Plan on brochures and talkfests.” Ms Staley said.
