More questions than answers in Daniel Andrews Budget

Member for Ripon Louise Staley has cautiously welcomed the Wedderburn Streetscaping Project being included in this week’s State Budget but has vowed to lobby the Andrews Government to commit further funding to finish the job.

The Wedderburn Streetscaping Project was included in the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund, however the Andrews Government provided no details on the amount set aside for this crucial project or providing a funding timeline, effectively leaving the community in the dark about when this much needed project will be undertaken.

The latest budget papers also further established Daniel Andrews city-centric reputation, by cutting funding to repair country bridges and roads, abolishes local government community infrastructure funding and cutting vital funding to country netball while splashing millions on netball in Melbourne suburbs.

Worst of all the Labor has only re-announced the $30 Million for the vital Murray basin rail project and falling well short of funding the $220 million required to get the job done.

Ripon MP Louise Staley said the inclusion of the Wedderburn Streetscaping Project was the result of a strong local campaign, however it is very concerning that the State Government has failed to commit to a funding timeline, leaving us no closer to actually seeing work get started.

“The continuation of the Wedderburn Streetscaping Project is a project that I support and builds on the $500,000 provided by the former Liberal Nationals Government. This funding is a welcome start but the Andrews Government needs to be honest with the community and commit to a firm funding timeline”. Ms Staley said.

“Daniel Andrews has continued his hack job on regional Victoria, we are now left without any firm infrastructure programs which will see local bridges and roads neglected”.

“The Murray Basin rail upgrade is crucial for farmers and traders across Ripon, it is a huge insult to country Victorians for Daniel Andrew to refuse to commit to full funding to the single most important project in regional Victoria”.
