Ripon MP Louise Staley has called on the Andrews Government to listen to the Stawell Community and take action on the Stawell Tyre Dump.
The Ripon MP looked at the potential environmental impacts of the site with Shadow Environment Minister Brad Battin.
Ms Staley recently presented a petition to State parliament containing nearly 1000 signatures of Stawell locals calling on the Andrews Government to urgently complete all outstanding administrative work and approvals currently holding the removal of the tyres back.
Louise Staley said an overwhelming section of the community wants the State Government to get out of the way so that work on removing the tyres can begin.
“The people of Stawell have spoken in their droves, The Andrews Government needs to get on with the job and allow the tyre recycling process to start.” Ms Staley said
“The Stawell Used Tyre Corp are ready and waiting for the green light to start recycling these tyres, instead they continue to be mucked around by an incompetent Andrews Government.”
Shadow Environment Minister Brad Battin said it was disgraceful that no action had yet been taken to remove these tyres.
“For far too long these tyres have marred the landscape of Stawell, we can’t afford any more procrastination they must go.” Mr Battin said.
“Every day that no action occurs is a big risk to Stawell, if the tyres caught fire it would burn for weeks, thick smog and fumes would poison the air and Daniel Andrews will be to blame for his inaction.”
