Member for Ripon Louise Staley has today announced that an elected Liberal Government will fund the Great Western Covered Riding Arena.
Speaking at the Great Western Regional Presentation Day, Ms Staley announced that an elected Liberal Government would provide $256,000 to the Grampians Riding Club to build the cover for the arena. This will improve the safety of the arena and allow it to be used in all weather conditions.
“Horse riding is a very popular activity for many people in the Grampians region. Currently there is no covered riding arena between Ballarat and Horsham despite the popularity of riding in this area.”
The announcement was welcomed by the Great Western Racecourse and Reserve Committee, Stawell Riding for the Disabled, Grampians Riding Club and Northern Grampians Shire Council.
“Grampians Riding Club, welcomes the announcement from Louise Staley MP Member for Ripon, Ms Kaye Clayfield, Treasurer of the Grampians Riding Club said.
“This announcement will allow the Grampians Riding Club to train in a safe, all weather environments. Nervous riders on uneducated horses will feel safe in an enclosed space. Other user groups such as Riding for the Disabled, and pony club members will be able to train. It will be a game changer for training and education for our horses and members.”
Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Jason Hosemans said, “It will just be a fantastic thing for our area. This sort of facility enables riding in all sorts of conditions and will make Great Western a magnet for riders from across the entire region.”
“The arena will provide more opportunities for riding for the disabled, clinics and lessons for riding clubs and opportunities for riders of all ages in the Grampians regions to participate in this much-loved activity year-round, despite the weather,” Ms Staley said.
Only a Liberal Nationals Government will deliver this important project which will benefit all horse riders and supporters including those involved in the vital work of riding for the disabled.
