Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Brad Battin and Ripon MP Louise Staley have today announced that an elected Liberal Government will build a new Fire Station Complex for Beaufort CFA.
The current Beaufort fire station was built in 1911, making it one of the oldest fire stations in Victoria. The current facilities are completely inadequate, they are cramped, unsafe and there isn’t enough room for all the equipment – some of which needs to be stored at a private residence because there simply is not enough room at the station.
“An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide $2 million to build the new Fire Station Complex in Beaufort that will include the fire station and the Group Headquarters,
“The new Fire Station Complex is desperately needed; the current CFA Station is at capacity and cannot provide the service that the Beaufort community needs and expects.” Mr Battin said.
Beaufort CFA is a 100% volunteer station with around 32 operational volunteer firefighters.
The new Fire Station Complex will replace the existing station and be developed to ensure it can meet current and future capacity requirements. It will continue to be the Group Headquarters and Local Command Facility and will also be the local hub for local brigades for meetings and training.
“It is absolutely vital that the Beaufort CFA has the resources they need to fight fires, and protect our local communities when we need help,”
“The current facilities here at Beaufort are no longer acceptable for a station that services this area far and wide. Daniel Andrews and his city-centric government have completely ignored the needs of the Beaufort CFA,” Ms Staley said.
The announcement was welcomed by the Beaufort CFA Brigade and Pyrenees Shire Council.
Beaufort Fire Brigade Captain, Colin Gerrard said “We welcome today’s announcement, whilst it will be sad to farewell our historic site, we have outgrown the current site and looking forward to a new updated modern facility, historic site
“The Beaufort CFA and community have been calling for this much-needed new station for years and it is great news that an elected Liberal Government will be able to deliver the new station for them,” Ms Staley said.
Only a Liberal Nationals Government will deliver this important project that will ensure the Beaufort CFA is able to protect and serve their local communities.
