Liberals secure future for Energy Breakthrough

Member for Ripon Louise Staley has today announced that an elected Liberal Government will secure the future of the Energy Breakthrough.

Ms Staley announced that an elected Liberal Nationals Government would provide $200,000 for Central Goldfields Shire Council to develop a business case to grow this regional event and increase participation for its 30th anniversary.

“The Energy Breakthrough, held in Maryborough each year, is an important state-wide event that provides opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle or machine that represents an ‘energy breakthrough’,”

“The Energy Breakthrough has been a key event on the Maryborough and Victorian calendar for over 26 years; the event has experienced significant growth over this time and, after the withdrawal of the program’s major partner, it is time for the organisers to develop a business plan to reshape the future of the event.” Ms Staley said.

The announcement was welcomed by the Central Goldfields Shire Council and Primary Schools and Secondary Schools across Ripon.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator, Noel Harvey OAM, said, “The Central Goldfields Shire welcomes this announcement. This funding will enable us to plan for the future, for the next 10 – 20 years, and ensure the ongoing success of this wonderful event,”

“Importantly this funding will also strengthen our capacity to attract sponsors for future events.”

Ms Staley said, “Every year hundreds of students take part in the Energy Breakthrough. This great program encourages participants to work in teams to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment,”

“Council will focus on attracting new partners and look at expanding the event across two weekends to increase participation.”

“Having attended four Energy Breakthroughs I know the economic benefit this event brings to Maryborough and the way it showcases the beauty of the town and the warmth of its people and it is great that an elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide this funding to secure the future of the Energy Breakthrough,” Ms Staley said.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will deliver this important project which will not only benefit the Maryborough community but also Primary and Secondary Schools across Ripon and Victoria.
