Ripon MP Louise Staley has criticised the Andrews Government for allowing the crucial Western Highway duplication to stall after allowing the planning permit lapse in 2015.
Ms Staley yesterday raised the issue in Parliament demanding the Planning Minister urgently act and issue a new planning permit immediately to get the road project going again.
Work on the single largest road project in Western Victoria had been suspended by Vicroads after Roads Minister Luke Donnellan failed to apply for an extension of the projects planning permit.
The basic administration error casts doubt on the future of the project, which was critical to the economic future of Ararat, Stawell, Beaufort and Ballarat.
Ms Staley said that the Western Highway upgrade clearly wasn’t a priority for Roads Minister Luke Donnellan as he had not bothered to get the latest information from his department.
“Luke Donnellan has dropped the ball, this crucial project is now at risk along with the jobs associated with it, Victorians need a State Government that will pay attention and focus on detail.”
