The lockdowns Victorians have endured as a result of Daniel Andrews’ second wave of coronavirus have demolished the number of employment opportunities in Victoria.
The Nationals Skills Commission’s latest Vacancy Report shows that over the past 12 months Victoria has recorded the largest drop in jobs advertisements of any state.
Job advertisements in Victoria are down by 23.3 per cent or 10,000 job advertisements.
The majority of this fall in job advertisements occurred in Melbourne, where a 38.8 per cent fall has been recorded over the past 12 months.
This was the largest fall in job advertisements recorded for any region in Australia.
Geelong and Surf Coast and Surf Coast (down 27.9%), Gippsland (down 16.9%) and Ballarat & Central Highlands (down 13.3%) have also recorded significant falls in jobs advertisements.
Together with Melbourne, these regions have recorded four of the five largest reductions of job advertisements in Australia over the past 12 months.
The Liberal Nationals have a comprehensive plan to get Victoria “Back to Work and Back in Business” and call on Daniel Andrews and Labor to back our plan to re-start the Victorian economy.
Comments attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Louise Staley:
“These devastating jobs vacancy numbers show the heavy price Victorians have paid for Labor’s COVID incompetence.
“Daniel Andrews must immediately release a comprehensive plan to get over 219,000 Victorians who have lost jobs back to work.
“Pie in the sky projects like Labor’s Suburban Rail Loop won’t deliver the jobs Victorians need right now.
“Daniel Andrews’ incompetent management of hotel quarantine caused Victoria’s second wave but his failure to fix contact tracing kept Victorians in the second wave for so long.”
